Ashton Kutcher's Twitter account has provided the world a great many things: odes to coffee sung with his stepdaughter, pictures of his unaging wife and now, a lesson on ensuring the security of your server.
While attending the TED 2011 'The Rediscovery of Wonder' conference, at which notable intellectuals and artists, including Bill Gates, Bobby McFerrin, David Brooks and Julie Taymor are all scheduled to speak, Kutcher got a less-than-pleasant surprise when he found his Twitter had been hacked.
Kutcher's nearly 6.4 million followers were treated to tweets claiming to have "punk'd" Kutcher. The hackers cheekily wrote to the actor, "Dude, where's my SSL?"
Check out the hackers' tweets inside.
Ashton isn't the first celebrity to have his Twitter hacked. In 2009, the Twitter accounts of Barack Obama, Britney Spears, CNN's Rick Sanchez and FOX News were all hacked to claim that Britney was suffering a peculiar medical condition, that Bill O'Reilly had come out and that Rick Sanchez was taking a very special personal day from work. (Check out the tweets at HuffPo.)
More recently, Selena Gomez's account has been attacked, with hackers posting "Oh yeh, JUSTIN BIEBER SUCKS!!!!!!" on her page.
At least Ashton's hackers had a mission, unlike the nonbeliebers. They just wanted some justice for other Internet insiders, and really, really didn't like 'Valentine's Day.'
