Although their Feb. 9 divorce announcement took many by surprise, pals close to Simpson and husband Pete Wentz say that the spouses of nearly three years "have been talking about splitting up forever."
Simpson, 26, had coped in part with the impending split by having some late, late-night fun. "Ashlee has been out late partying for the past few months," says one insider. Specifically, the singer-actress -- and mom to son Bronx, 2 -- hangs with a crew of pro skateboarders in San Clemente, Calif., and returns home at sunrise.
"She would lose track of time," the insider says. (Who are these "Insiders? 'Cause they sure know allot of details.)
Fall Out Boy rocker Wentz, 31, "started getting burnt out" by those antics, another source says. On the road with his band, he "would constantly check in on Ashlee, and he'd have his friends call the house and her cell to make sure she said she was where she said she was going to be," an insider explains. "He felt like he couldn't trust her."
So when the going gets tuff the tuff go house hunting. Simpson, is rumored to be staying with big sister Jessica and isn't wasting any time moving on.
"Ashlee Simpson is tough. She'll be just fine," one Cleveland fan stated (How does she know?). Ashlee's friends have been helping her look for a new home for herself and son Bronx, 2.
"They drove by a few houses in the $3 to 4 million range," said one insider. "Ashlee didn't get out of the car and was quiet and subdued. At one point, she was going to get out of the car but when she saw photographers she decided to stay in the car and then went home."
The biggest concern for Simpson while check out houses? A suitable place for Bronx to be safe and happy. One of the houses was just up from the street from Coldwater Park where she and Pete like to take Bronx to play.
Ashlee and Pete are allegedly going to be sharing custody of Brox.
