Gilbert Gottfried Fired by Aflac Over Japan Tweets

Gilbert Gottfried was fired by Aflac from his job as the voice of the duck mascot in the wake of his controversial tweets about the earthquake in Japan.

The company released a statement saying, "Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac ... Aflac will immediately set plans in motion to conduct a nationwide casting call to find a new voice of the iconic Aflac Duck."

Aflac does about 75% of its business in Japan. The company plans to donate about $100 million to disaster relief.

The comedian hasn't apologized for his controversial jokes!

UPDATE:  Gilbert Gottfried -- Sorry About the Tsunami Jokes
Gilbert Gottfried is regretting he ever said anything about Japan -- in fact, the comic just took to Twitter to make a public apology after mocking the victims of the tsunami in Japan ... writing, "I meant no disrespect."
